How Long To Keep Castor Oil In Hair?

Myths and whispers. 50 years of opera in Spain . Joaquín Martín de Sagarminaga, Editorial Sumac, Alcala la Real (Jaén), 2010. 453 pages. 22 euros

Looking through and browsing the latest work by Joaquín Martín de Sagarminaga anyone might think that Spain is full on opera writers and researchers of the highest level, because if a book like this has been edited by a small business a town of Jaén, why not publish every year the large publishing groups in the country. The reality is however very different: although lately its been more about entertainment, music remains a Cinderella in the world of the English edition. It is therefore very poorly understood that these myths and whispers have not attracted the attention of editors most unique. From here we can only congratulate those responsible for hosting Sumac in his catalog of work and a clean and responsible work of text composition, although greater clarity in the index, including all page headers and format more light would have improved readability. Martin

Sagarminaga needs no introduction: it is one of the great English music journalists of our time. Specializing in the complex world of singing, Sagarminaga has spent four years of his life to build this extraordinary puzzle on the lyric activity in Spain, which coordinates through fifty portraits of many other singers who performed (mostly) at the Teatro Real Madrid, from its opening in November 1850 to the end of 1925; clear that the author, because it can, skipping its own rules to get close to some famous people who never sang at the coliseum in Madrid, as Georges Jean Thill and I noticed, and the renowned modern artists such as Christa Ludwig, which is in Vienna, Paris and the English capital itself, and Frank Sinatra!

legendary singers parade through here, as, besides those already mentioned, Tamberlick, Tamagno, Darclée, Pacini, Anselmi, Gigli, Ruffo ... and personalities just remembered, whose whispering wakes the author amplifies. In each portrait, brief but juicy, combines scholarship, accuracy of information, the finesse and boldness in the trial with the most colorful stories, all woven seamlessly through a loose prose and sharp irony always, complemented with a peculiar talent for games words that particularly affect the securities. Not only with this brilliantly Bergman Myths and whispers, but many others: I noticed Jean, baritone notorious, no chips Biel (Biel Julian), fine Christalería (Christa Ludwig), La donna è nobile (Hariclea Darclée) no other as his (Sinatra) or, my favorite, devilish code (Angelo Angioletti). Unreservedly recommended for lovers of lyrics and quality of journalistic reporting.
