Bezbolesna śmierć

The priest in the theater

[Il Giardino Armonico]
The extraordinary spread in the last half century has reached its concert music does not affect the fact that Antonio Vivaldi overturned the best of his artistic imagination in the composition of operas, in spite of being a priest, which would cause a troublesome problem. Trained as a violinist with his father, a member of the orchestra of St Mark's Basilica Venice, Vivaldi had obtained his first job as a professional musician in September 1703 to be hired as maestro di violino the Ospedale della Pietà . All his life the composer maintain some relationship with this institution, one of four in the Republic of Venice took care of orphaned, abandoned and illegitimate, offering them part of a thorough musical training.

Following the publication of his first collections of sonatas (1705 , 1709), the composer's fame spread rapidly, which in 1709 did not prevent temporarily losing his position at the Pietà, which would in 1711. The parenthesis of its collaboration with the Ospedale served the musician to approach the operatic atmosphere of the Serenissima. In 1710, his relationship with Teatro Sant'Angelo, one of the most popular city is already documented. However, the first known opera composer's debut in the not distant Vicenza. This is Ottone in villa, a comedy of pastoral environment that was presented in 1713. Vivaldi was already 35 years older for a newcomer in the genre, which despite the end of his life he claimed to have composed over 90 operas, which, even taking into account that many of these titles were pastiches, is a staggering figure for a man who died 63 years and also left a long list of instrumental pieces and sacred.

The interest in the stage production of Vivaldi is relatively recent, but from the point of view label now covers almost all its production. Specifically, Ottone in villa have agreed two versions in a short space of time: one of Federico Guglielmo for Brilliant and this of Giovanni Antonini for the extraordinary Vivaldi Edition on Naive . ON or drama, Antonini's vision is supported by an exemplary management of orchestral resources, allowing you to get a constantly changing atmosphere of the dramatic to the lyrical, from the light to the sentimental. The cast is wonderful, starting with the very young Russian soprano Julia Lezhnev, with only 20 years, shows not only a remarkable agility in the ornate singing, but also a superb natural elegance in the most lyrical and expressive pieces. Veronica Cangemi gives voice to homogeneity and taste to Cleonilla, central character of the work, and Sonia Prina brings authority and nobility to a growing Ottone in moments of deep pathos. Roberta Invernizzi and completed with excellence Topi Lehtipuu the luxury division.
